Transaction failed every Solana user will have seen this annoying message way too often in the last weeks. Fortunately Solana has just rolled out a significant software update, version 1.17.31, targeting the recent challenges of network congestion. This surge in congestion, primarily fueled by the increased trading of meme coins and a rapid growth in user base, has prompted urgent action from the Solana team.This update marks the beginning of a series aimed at enhancing network performance. It includes strategic enhancements specifically designed to better manage the rising transaction volumes and heightened user activities. There's a circulating stat on Crypto Twitter and a lot of discussions about failed transactions on Solana. Here’s a straightforward explanation:In the context of Solana, a "failed" transaction doesn't necessarily mean the network itself failed. Rather, it indicates that the smart contract on the blockchain identified the request as invalid—for reasons like incorrect permissions or market conditions changing rapidly (like exceeding slippage tolerance during trading).These failed transactions are different from network outages. The blockchain is operating correctly by filtering out these invalid requests as designed. This is crucial for understanding network health and scalability because it impacts how we address and rectify issues.But nonetheless ... the Solana UX in the past weeks was just bad. I am actually quite happy that I am no maximalist, but a rational investor who can switch from one chain to another one if necessary.
