Knock-knock! Who's there? We've all been there when you open the door and someone is fundraising for charity. Too busy, too unsure, too skint, too indifferent?I wonder what it's like to be the person on the other side of the doorstep? What is it that makes a meaningful connection between 2 strangers standing face-to-face? In a word, rapport. This ability to create a spark of human chemistry has much to do with lived experience. Countless research papers have demonstrated that the capacity to empathise is one of the stand-out super-powers of older people. That doorstep encounter can be daunting. It takes special reserves of resilience, determination and compassion to encourage a complete stranger to part with hard-earned cash. One of the many great things about being aged over 50 is that we can draw on a wealth of accumulated experience. This can help make us highly effective communicators. It also heightens our ability to connect with potential donors on a personal level, using our life experience to build rapport and trust. Add to this a strong work ethic and desire to give back and you have a pretty serious string to your fundraising bow. This is why we are so chuffed to be supporting our friends at The Fundraising Partnership by advertising their face-to-face fundraising roles on our over-50s focussed Jobs Redefined platform.Working in tandem we will attract and recruit those uniquely talented over-50s looking to make a difference not just to their lives but also to those people most in need of help.#help #fundraising #experience #over50s #purposeNick BergKevin MannAlondra Gomez-Andrade - MBA, BSc

NEW #TuesdayTips! This week talking about forming a "Friends Of" organization to support government agencies - like school districts or parks - and other entities that are not allowed to fundraise themselves. This is mainly relating to USA laws, and let me know in the comments how adjunct orgs like "Friends Of" or "Citizens Advisory Committees" work in your part of the world! "Friends Of" groups can be informal/ad hoc - coming together for one capital campaign or project- or can be a formal legal nonprofit (5013c) created to partner with and support another organization. Whatever the legal structure, there should be clear roles and responsibilities defined, like a Steering Committee, Treasurer (dealing with $$$ after all!), and/or Working Groups. It's also very important to define the boundaries of people volunteering between the beneficiary agency and the "Friends Of" group. It's fine if the FO shares policies and practices of good volunteer engagement and management aligned with the beneficiary, but neither org should ever "double-dip" volunteer hours or share a database/VMS.#LeadersOfVolunteers #FriendsOf #Donors #Fundraising #Government #Nonprofit #VolunteerEngagement #CommunityEngagement
