Day 193.Stop 🛑.Reflect.Meditate.“Today, I will take some time to plan an event, to collect toys from my street, so that they can be donated to a children’s hospital in my local area.”Being in hospital for anyone is difficult, and for children it can be fraught with so many more issues. Being away from home. Missing siblings and familiar surroundings. Missing their pets and beloved toys. Helping them fill their days with learning and play, can help somewhat to enabling their speedy recovery or easing the pain of being there. How many of you have kids spending time in hospital? How was it? What could have been better for you and your child? What was done well? Since the start of February our EML Bourke St office have been collecting used and pre-loved books for Brotherhood of St Laurence for re-sale on their online social enterprise Brotherhood Books. Brotherhood Books is an online second-hand bookstore which helps fund the services they provide to disadvantaged people withinbour community. Tragically the flooding that resulted when the Maribyrnong River burst its banks late last year caused extensive damage to the warehouse destroying more than 20,000 books. Today EML were able to deliver over 600 donated books for re-sale through their website. If you are interested in donating you can take your used books to your local Brotherhood of St Laurence Op-Shop. And it doesn't have to be just books- they accept all kinds of pre-loved items (they have a current shortage of womens winterwear and menswear). Purchasing from Brotherhood Books not only supports the community but keeps books out of landfill.
