Indiegogo is introducing a new campaign format called Express Crowdfunding, designed to let creators begin shipping products while the campaign is still live rather than waiting until the campaign ends.
But here’s where it gets controversial: this shift relies on a new technology stack that was originally built for Gamefound, a platform known for its board game crowdfunding model. The core idea behind that technology is that campaigns raise funds to bring a product to life, with an anticipated gap of roughly two weeks between the end of the crowdfunding phase and the start of the pledge-management phase where addresses are collected and orders are finalized.
A concrete illustration of the current delay issue comes from Ayaneo’s Pocket Air Mini retro handheld campaign. Ayaneo initially aimed to ship by the end of November, but platform policy requirements prevented address collection until December 5, and review of the address-shipping move took about three days. Shipments are now expected to start around December 10.
Indiegogo’s spokesperson, Maciej Kuc, told The Verge that Express Crowdfunding should be available in early February, representing a significant acceleration compared with traditional post-campaign fulfillment timelines.
Why this matters: for creators, faster fulfillment can improve customer satisfaction and momentum in ongoing campaigns; for backers, it reduces the risk of delays and long wait times. However, it also raises questions about quality control, backer communication, and how mid-campaign shipping will be coordinated with pledge-manager flows and address verification.
