Good stuff. The Whiteley Art Scandal - our series about the greatest art fraud case in Australia's history - is a finalist in Best Arts Journalism at the Walkley's Mid Year Celebration of Journalism. Congrats to everyone involved in making it, and many thanks to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), commissioning editor Kalita Corrigan, managing editor Sashka Koloff and Screen NSW for their support.

Well done Ivan. Hey, I'm just curious; would you define the project as a documentary or a piece of journalism... or both?

The truth always comes to the light! It’s amazing that she was able to assess through the performative, public gestures of solidarity and make a wise decision that did not leave her in financial ruin.Race equity, DEI, Civil Rights, etc. have been co-opted by commercialized, corporate, white-led/integrated and historically racist entities as a means of suppression and control. It’s exploitation as a means of survival. When there isn’t a deep conviction and commitment from the donors, to the board, to the leadership…that’s a sign of impending violence on one’s mental, emotional, physical and financial safety.“On Sunday, she received a third offer, this time with a one-year contract and emphasizing that the appointment was at will and that she could be terminated at any time. She has rejected the offer and shared all of the offer letters with the Tribune.”That “at-will” clause doesn’t mean that the company can engage is discrimination and/or reckless disregard. There are protections if you find yourself in a hostile work environment where your supervisor begins to confuse employee - employer relationship with enslaved - enslaver, or if your employer mistakenly thinks that you are somehow their property/possession.The truth is coming out! And we are more equipped and prepared to deal with the ugliness of this country’s shame: white supremacy.

The crisis facing journalism is a crisis for democracy. We believe it matters who tells the story, and so supporting journalists who come from the communities they serve - whether they are specific neighborhoods or communities connected by immigrant experience, culture or language - is a way to reinvigorate journalism and strengthen representative democracy.
