Wagner is de personificatie van fifties cool als de psychopathische student Bud Corliss, die moeiteloos zijn vriendinnetje uit de weg ruimt wanneer die hem in een lastig parket brengt. De opbouw vertoont opvallende gelijkenissen met de latere Hitchcock-klassieker Psycho, en Corliss werd in 1999 min of meer gereïncarneerd als hoofdpersoon in The Talented Mr. Ripley.
