Today, I’m showing y’all how to make healthy homemade jello, and it only requires two simple ingredients! Not only is it a kid-friendly snack, but it’s also great for gut healing, leaky gut, and for the health of your hair, skin, and nails.

Store bought jellos contain lots of added sugars and unnecessary ingredients, such as artificial dyes, preservatives, and other additives. But, you can feel good about eating this jello (or giving it to your kids) because it’s all natural, healthy, grain free, dairy free, and preservative free.

Health Benefits of Homemade Jello

Yes, homemade jello is actually super healthy! Here’s a few reasons why I love it.

1 – The natural gelatin powder is great for your hair, skin, and gut lining

Gelatin is actually the cooked form of collagen, which means it has similar (almost identical) benefits to that of collagen. The cooking process gives it a different texture than hydrolyzed collagen peptides, and this allows you to use it in different ways than you would collagen peptides.

For instance, collagen peptides can be added to water, smoothies, etc. because they dissolves easily in liquids. However, gelatin doesn’t. Gelatin is used as a thickener and gelling agent, which makes it great for making homemade jello or using it as a healthy thickener in soups or bisques.

So, I personally like to include both collagen peptides and gelatin into my diet as ways to support the health of my hair, skin, nails, gut lining, joints, etc.

2 – Homemade Jello only uses 2-3 natural ingredients

When making homemade jello, all you need is grass-fed gelatin powder, fruit or vegetable juice, and raw honey (which is optional). Store bought jellos contains artificial dyes and additives that aren’t necessary and some have even been linked to negative health effects.

When making homemade jello, you can also control how much sugar is added. To reduce the sugar content, just use a vegetable juice instead of fruit juice. Or, make your own homemade juice with a juicer.

Storage and Flavor Combinations

The jello will last in the fridge for up to 5-7 days. And, feel free to get creative with the flavors. For today’s post, I used grape juice, cranberry juice, and peach mango juice. All of them were organic with no additives.

But, you can certainly make your own juice at home with a juicer. One of my favorite blends to make with my juicer is raw carrots and apples. This is a delicious flavor combination that’s not too sugary, full of antioxidants, and kids will love it!

This healthy homemade jello recipe is a great healthy snack for kids and yourself. It’s gluten free, grain free, dairy free, and allergen free.

Ingredients

Directions

  • In a small bowl, add the gelatin powder and 3/4 C. juice. Mix with a fork until there are no lumps. Let sit for 5 minutes to allow the gelatin to “bloom.”
  • In a saucepan over medium-high heat, add the remaining juice. Right before it breaks into a boil, turn off the heat. Add in the optional honey and lightly stir with a whisk to combine. Then, add in the bloomed gelatin mixture. Continue to stir with a whisk until it has fully dissolved.
  • Pour the mixture into a non-stick 8×8 pan. Refrigerate for 12-24 hours or until firm. Cut into small bite-size squares and keep stored in the fridge until ready to consume. ENJOY!

My daughter had a fever last night and I wanted to make something she could easily and willingly eat. Jello was on the list of things to serve when having a fever but I don’t like all the junk put into jello (sugar, artificial flavor and coloring etc) I had all 3 of the ingredients on hand and used organic blueberry pomegranate juice. Wow! The jello is so so good and I feel so much better feeding her something that is minimal in bad ingredients and processing especially while sick!
    Thank you!
